Restoration / Gilding

After an apprenticeship from 2002 to 2005 and a few years as an employee, I opened my small workshop in Chelles in Seine et Marne. I mainly restore gilded wooden frames and objects. I also work as a subcontractor on construction sites (embassies, hotels, luxury shops, etc...). I also hope to be able to develop a little more the creation part (paintings, frames).

Restoration

Restoration of gilded wood and various creations from metal leaf. The restoration of gilded wood consists in bringing back to life polychrome and/or gilded objects such as statuary mirrors and others. My creations try to take as a subject the leaf in its rectangular shape, ahd highlight its nuances and not the subject it covers. Forget the underlying shape and reveal the sometimes raw brilliance of the leaf.

Art
I go out to meet the animals and try to capture their souls. The charismatic African and North American megafauna is my preference, but our humble pets captivate me just as much. Field sketching, painting and engraving are my usual modes of expression. To the encaustic of my painting or the sobriety of my engravings I associate gold to awaken and dramatize the glances and the brilliance. I'm trying to be an emotional conduit.
Title of the work: "Grues du Japon N1" (Série Hokkaido 2020)
Technique: Gesso, inks, gold and encaustic on paper
Dimension: 132/100cm

Passionate for nearly 20 years about illumination learned with a better worker in France, I love the delicacy of the work, its relatioship with books and calligraphy, the art of beautiful writing. Applying gold leaf to parchment is the most beautiful effect. I try to pass on my passion by giving courses at the University for All in Albi (Tarn, France). I have also created the Tarnese Association of Friends of Illumination.

The Bettenfeld-Rosenblum workshop was founded in 1895. This workshop has always perpetuated an exceptional and traditional know-how, exclusively dedicated to leather work and its ennoblement. The workshop has the most important collection of leather gilding tools available today, allowing restoration or reproduction as well as browsing through all styles of all periods. It also continues to produce gilding tools at the request of these customers, in particular for gilding plates for luxury brands.

Gilding

After obtaining my diploma in gilding, my work consists in the traditional restoration of wood gilded with tempera as well as the various foreign workcamps in which I could take part (Qatar, United Kingdom) in a research of adaptation to the exclusively natural material such as the vegetable (ferns, gingko leaves among others), the pebbles worked with water gilding, and more playfully the aquatic world (crabs, starfish, lobsters, various and varied shells, gorgonian sea fans). All my objects are gilded with fine yellow or white gold in order to sublimate the contrast between the material and the gold leaf.
